Two-Hour Lacrosse-Skills Clinic or Entry into Eight-Session Lacrosse League from Turn & Burn Lacrosse
With its catching nets and hard-hitting action, lacrosse is similar to America's national pastime, extreme lepidoptery, though it involves fewer swarms of carnivorous butterflies. Discover the delights of this simpler sport with today's Groupon to Turn & Burn Lacrosse. Choose between the following options:
- For $25, you get one two-hour lacrosse-skills training clinic for boys and girls entering grades 3–12 (a $50 value). The clinic is held on Sunday, August 28, from 3 to 5 p.m. at JCC’s Athletic Fields.
- For $100, you get entry into a boy’s or girl’s Fall Ball lacrosse league for kids entering grades 3–12 (a $200 value). The league meets for eight 90-minute sessions between September 10 and October 30. Sessions are held at WCWAA Fields in Weddington on Sundays and at MARA Fields in Matthews on Saturdays.
Turn & Burn Lacrosse’s coterie of former and current collegiate lacrosse players and coaches lavishes hard-won lax learnings onto pupils of all skill levels during training clinics and league play. During the clinic, trainees can marinate raw skills in a two-hour medley of position-based instruction, with particular attention to proper techniques, fundamental play, and safely liberating butterflies from stick nets. The clinic, open to players of all abilities, includes a Turn & Burn T-shirt and sticker. Alternately, league play fosters the development of junior lacrosse lovers with weekly 90-minute sessions that combine skill drills, positional strategies, and live games. Grouped by age and ability, stick wielders can reap the fruits of valuable, expert-led practice in an encouraging environment that emphasizes on-field skills such as shooting, passing, and defense, as well as a commitment to lacrosse's time-honored traditions of good sportsmanship, character, and intimidating shoulder-pad graphics.
Pupils at both the clinic and the league sessions must provide their own equipment, including sticks and a mouth guard—male players also need gloves, helmet, elbow pads, and shoulder pads, and girls don special goggles. Those without lacrosse accouterments can request to borrow elbow pads, gloves, and helmets from Turn & Burn’s recycle bin, but will need to buy their own sticks, or fashion homemade ones from broom handles and tied-off kiddie basketball nets.
